The workshop was organized by the Department of Medical Education Unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Pune for Junior Residents of Radio-diagnosis, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Anesthesiology, Batch 2021 and 2022 from on 25^th & 27^st October 2023.This workshop was attended by 30 residents.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dean Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar. He addressed the group about the need of Medical Education Technologies for residents as per NMC regulations. As residents are involved in teaching Undergraduates and Clinical care of patients , it is important to inculcate the Values, Ethics, sincerity, commitment , Communication Skills and punctuality for residents. He also guided the postgraduate students to get involved in SGT & OSCE so that the department can benefit. The students need to follow logbook activities and document them in E logbook as per requirement by NMC. He gave the best wishes for the workshop.

The workshop started with the introduction of participants and faculty. The objectives of the workshop were shared, and a pretest was conducted. The post graduate curriculum as per NMC was shared. The residents were asked to read the document and decide about the working plan for studies. The principles of adult learning were discussed by Dr. Kathpalia. There was a group discussion on principles and the process of adult learning, domains & taxonomy. The concept of curriculum, outcomes, objectives were explained with examples. The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Pramila Menon & Dr. Shilpa Kshirsagar . To become a good clinician, the need to become a good communicator and understanding the principles of ethics and research was highlighted. The importance of professionalism and leadership qualities was emphasized and conveyed to the participants. This was followed by group discussion. The residents actively participated in the discussion. Dr. Pallavi Bajpayee & Dr Shilpa KShirsagar introduced SDL & importance of active learning which is the crux of the residents’ teaching learning. The communication skills were taught by role play. The group also explained about the assessment methods like written methods like LAQ, SAQ and MCQs for cognitive domains. This was followed by debriefing to understand the learning of the group. Large group teaching was taught with a focus on its advantages and challenges by Dr. Kathpalia. He Demonstrated interactive teaching and the group activity which made the session interesting. The different methods like confusion technique, quiz, jokes, storytelling were used for making the lecture more effective and interactive.

AETCOM module was shared with the group for self directing module. Dr. Pramila Menon used case scenarios from the module to explain the principles of bioethics. Dr. Pallavi Bajpayee, Professor Anatomy department took session on reflection and feedback. The session was interactive, and the group was asked to write structured feedback and reflection. Dr. Gaurang Baxi, Professor, Physiotherapy addressed effective use of media in medical education. He stressed on the appropriate and correct use of power point, chalk and board and models Dr Shilpa Kshirsagar explained about performance assessments which included OSCE/OSLER/Clinical Skills to bring out the objectivity and skill building. The workshop also demonstrated microteaching Session by Dr. Bageshree Pande, Professor, Physiology.

The residents were asked to do Microteaching sessions in the department and get feedback. The post test was conducted. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks.
