The workshop was organized by the Department of General Surgery and Medical Education Unit of Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College Pune for Junior Residents 2021 and 2022 and was conducted on the 8^th, 10^th, 11^th, and 12^th May 2023. This workshop was attended by 45 residents. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Anuradha Dnyanmote, Professor of the Department of General Surgery, under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) D. S. Nirhale, Professor & HOD of the Department of General Surgery. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar, Dean of Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital Pune. He addressed the need for sincerity, commitment, and punctuality from residents. He advised all residents to enter day-to-day activities in the e-logbook as per requirement by NMC. He gave best wishes for the workshop. Dr. Vatsala Swamy, Director of Academics, guided the residents about microteaching and also advised the use of MET in their teaching of undergraduate students. She gave me best wishes for the workshop.

The workshop started with the introduction of participants and faculty with a pre-test. The objective of the workshop was shared. The document of the Postgraduate curriculum as per NMC was shared. The residents were asked to read the document and decide about the working plan for their studies. The principles of adult learning were discussed. They were correlated with their syllabus. There was a group discussion on the Principles and Processes of adult learning, Domains & Taxonomy. The concept of Curriculum, Outcomes, and Objectives was explained with examples. It was conducted by Dr. Kathpalia, Professor of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The session on self-directed learning was facilitated by Dr. Pramila Menon (SDL). This was followed by a group discussion. The residents actively participated in the discussion. Dr. Virendra Athavale, Professor of the Department of General Surgery, introduced teaching Learning Methods and demonstrated small group teaching. The communication skills were taught by role play. The residents were actively involved in assessing the method by using the Kalamazoo checklist. The group also explained the assessment methods like written methods like LAQ, SAQ, and MCQs for cognitive domains. This was followed by Debriefing to understand the learning of the group.

Large group teaching was taught with a focus on its advantages and challenges. The group activity made the session interesting. Different methods like the Confusion technique, Quiz, Jokes, and Storytelling were used for making the lecture more effective and interactive. The session was addressed by Dr. Prabhat Nichkaode, Professor of the Department of General Surgery.

The AETCOM module was shared with the group for the self-directing module. Dr. Mahendra Wante, Associate Professor of the Department of General Surgery used case scenarios and Small Skit was conducted to explain the principles of bioethics. Dr. Pallavi Bajpayee from the Professor Anatomy department took a session on Reflection and Feedback. The session was interactive, and the group was asked to write structured feedback and reflection. Dr Gaurang Professor of Physiotherapy addressed the Effective use of media in Medical Education. He stressed the appropriate and correct use of PowerPoint, chalk, and board, and models. Dr. Kathpalia from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology explained about Performance assessments which included OSCE/OSLER/Clinical Skills to bring out objectivity and skill building. The workshop also demonstrated a Microteaching Session by Dr Pallavi Bajpayee from the Department of Anatomy.

The residents were asked to propose Microteaching sessions in the department and get feedback. The post-test was conducted. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks.
