The delightful occasion of International Women’s Day was celebrated at Dr. D.Y. Patil, Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri by launch of ‘Lactation Clinic’ with the aim to empower breastfeeding mothers.

The inauguration of this wonderful facility was done by the hands of Hon’ble Dr. (Mrs) Bhagyashree Patil, Pro-Chancellor, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune on 8^th of March 2023 at 6pm. She appreciated the initiative and wished the entire team, great luck for its success. The event was also graced by Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar, Dean, Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College and many senior faculties from Department of Pediatrics and Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

Dr. Shailaja Mane, Prof. & Head, Dept. of Pediatrics said that “It is well-known that breastfeeding has immense benefits. Mothers cherish the beautiful bond that they form with their baby because of breastfeeding. Lactation Clinic is the need of the hour for improving the rates of breastfeeding in our country and providing best health outcomes to all mothers and babies.”

Lactation Consultants provide appropriate scientific information, practically help mother’s breastfeed their babies and resolve their breastfeeding issues. The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is the highest certification of competency in this field. Dr. D. Y. Patil Hospital, Pimpri has a team of six IBCLCs. Lactation clinic facility will thus, help their expertise and guidance reach maximum families in a timely manner.

The LCs will be available at the Lactation Clinic, six days a week from Monday to Saturday 10 am to 1 pm. It will be held at the private OPD in the Hi-tech building. Provision of various useful breastfeeding tools, teaching aids and educational handouts has been made at the clinic. Mothers will be able to get practical help, have their queries answered and moreover receive the emotional support that they need the most.
