The revised Basic Workshop was organized under the MUHS, Nashik Regional Centre. Twenty-Eight medical teachers participated in the workshop. The workshop started with the pre-test. This was followed by the introduction of the participants and a briefing on group dynamics by Brig S K Kathpalia and Dr. Shilpa Kshirsagar. The participants thoroughly enjoyed the session especially the puzzle of assembling a ‘T’ from the paper pieces provided. Dr Pramila Menon introduced the participants to the application of the Systems approach to instructional design with respect to medical education. She also brought out the principles of adult learning from the participants and discussed its importance in the how system approach affects MEU was discussed in the teaching/learning(T/L) process. The participants actively contributed in the group discussion. The concept of Competency-based Medical Education and the Goals Roles and Competencies of The Indian Medical graduate was elaborated by Dr. S. L. Jadhav and Dr Rashmi Prashant. The various terminologies in domains and the progression of learning were made simpler by Dr. Sarita Mulkalwar and Dr. S. Kanitkar. Brig S. K. Kathpalia conducted a hands-on session on formulating objectives, which the participants enjoyed. Dr. S L Jadhav introduced the principles of assessment. The participants shared their thoughts about challenges in assessment in CBME.

The second day started with the participants choosing a teaching-learning method, for the objectives already formulated, by participants in a session conducted by Dr. Pramila Menon, Dr. Sarita Mulkulwar & Dr. S. L. Jadhav. The advantages and disadvantages of the methods were also discussed. Dr. Archana Buch and Dr. C R Gore discussed newer teaching-learning methods for small and large groups. They also elaborated on choosing the appropriate media for the given learning session. Dr. Pallavi Bajpayee and Dr. Rashmi Prashant helped the participants make an appropriate lesson plan. Assessment methods, including their advantages and disadvantages, were discussed by Dr. C R Gore. Internal and formative assessment, its importance in CBME, and the various methods and modalities were discussed by Brig S. K. Kathpalia.

The opening session of the last day was AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics, and Communications) conducted by Dr. S. L. Jadhav and Dr. Pramila Menon using self-directed learning (SDL) session. The groups studied the module and presented the various aspects of the AETCOM module. They also presented how they would go about conducting the sessions allotted to their particular phase. Then they were briefed on how to write a reflection and were given the assignment to write a reflection on how they would implement the AETCOM module in their subject. Dr. S Kanitkar held a hands-on session on choosing the right assessment method for the objectives already chosen. Dr. Priti Shah and Dr. Pramila Menon gave handy tips on effective clinical practical skills teaching. Assessment of clinical and practical skills was covered extensively in sessions taken by Dr. Sampada Tambolkar, Dr. Pramila Menon, Dr. S. K. Kathpalia, and Dr. Priti Shah. The role play was done by participants & checklist-based assessment was demonstrated. Dr. A V Tilak conducted the session on Feedback in his own inimitable style. Educational networking for professional growth is important and Dr. S. L. Jadhav gave insights on how to go about it. The NMC observer appreciated the interactivity and the quality of the sessions and the hard work put in by the participants. Dr Deshpande Professor & HOD Obstetrics & Gynecology advised about the application of the knowledge and skills learnt during the workshop in their lar regT/L activities. The participants in their feedback stated that they had enjoyed the hands-on sessions and the activities in the workshop and benefitted from it. In the end, they reflected on the experiences during the workshop and how they would use them to improve the teaching-learning experience in their respective fields. There was a significant improvement in the post-test scores as compared to the pretest.
