A refresher course titled “Faculty Development in AETCOM for CBME Curriculum Implementation” was conducted on 23rd January 2025 at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital, and Research Centre Pimpri, Pune by the Medical Education Unit & Internal Quality Assurance Cell. The guest speaker was Dr. Prathibha Muthu, Professor and Head, Physiology, Sri Ramchandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai.

The guest speaker, Dr. Prathibha, was felicitated by Dean Dr. A. Rekha and Director Academics Dr. P. Vatsalaswamy. The Dean appreciated the faculty for their active participation in the Faculty development workshop conducted in AETCOM for CBME Curriculum Implementation.The Director of Academics gave valuable guidance to all faculties.

The morning session “How to be a good doctor?” conducted for 200 students of Phase II and Phase III Part I MBBS and faculty which commenced at 9 a.m. The session started with the introduction of guest speaker by Dr. Pallavi Bajpayee. The workshop was very interactive with the speaker explaining to the students the importance of following ethics in the medical profession, having a correct attitude towards the patient, and having good communication skills in the doctor-patient relationship. She shared her own experiences and made it extremely interesting by presenting some case scenarios and asking the students to discuss the role of AETCOM. The students expressed some very unique perspectives. At the end, feedback about the session was taken, which was very positive.

The afternoon session “How to teach AETCOM more effectively?” for the faculty members started at 2 p.m. Forty-six medical teacher participants were divided into six groups. The session started with a group activity with each group being given one AETCOM module. The importance of AETCOM in the CBME curriculum, which is the need of the hour, was discussed.

Subsequently, each faculty was asked to go through the AETCOM module specific to their specialty and discuss it amongst the group members. Dr. Prathibha addressed the session on various aspects of conducting AETCOM sessions, competencies addressed, number of hours allotted, teaching-learning methods that can be used, assessment methods, etc. The faculty was asked to share their experiences of conducting AETCOM and the challenges they faced.

Debriefing was done after the sessions. Resource faculty members Dr Pallavi Bajpayee, Dr Arti Hajarnavis, Dr Sampada Tambolkar, Dr Bageshree Pande facilitated smooth conduct of program and took active part in discussions.

Faculty feedback was taken.The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Arti Hajarnavis.
