The white coat ceremony is a ceremony where the medical students take the pledge of the Charak Shapath. It is marked as an important event in the life of MBBS students, as this symbolizes their transition in the medical profession. It was organized on the 19th of December 2024, in Lecture Hall 1 in Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune.

The Opening:

Mrs. Annie Francis, Registrar of the Medical College, had opened the ceremony and put on the introduction. She has formally presented Dean Madam, Director Academics Madam, Heads of Department of Physiology and Biochemistry, Deputy Heads of Anatomy and Community Medicine, and all the faculty members present in the ceremony.

It was followed by the introduction of Mr. Gulshan Sharma, General Secretary, Student Council of Medical College. He shared his experience of the medical college as a student and his personal development in these years. He touched upon the stages of learning a student may go through in the upcoming years.

The Event:

Mr. Krishna Raghuwanshi, a member of the Student Council of the Medical College, guided the audience through the event.

Speech of Director Academics:

Dr. P. Vatsalaswamy Madam spoke on the significance of the day and what lies ahead in the coming years. She laid emphasis on the importance of studying and extracurricular activities.

Speech of Dean:

Dr. Rekha Madam put forth the importance of the white coat ceremony and how the transition had happened in the pledge of the medical students. Earlier, she mentioned it was when the student goes to the clinical phase, marking a transition of the journey of the medical students, and now it had been a part of the MBBS student right from the beginning. She emphasized the various types of learning and the importance of embracing new technologies that will pave the way for future advancements.

Dr. Rekha Madam took her example and elaborated on the rapid technological advancements wherein catching up becomes an inevitable part of the learning. Prioritizing education but not neglecting the extracurricular activities, a student who may be good in gaming, which needs hand-eye coordination, can be good in laparoscopic surgery or other kinds of minimally invasive surgeries.

Director Academics Madam recited the pledge, and students have repeated it.

The ceremony was concluded with final remarks from Mr. Krishna Raghuwanshi.
