The Department of Medical Gastroenterology successfully organized a workshop on “Third Space Endoscopy: POEM” on 07^th November 2024.

The guest faculties were:

Rajesh Puri, Vice Chairperson - Intervention Gastroenterology, Institute of Digestive and Hepatobiliary Sciences at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. He is a leading gastroenterologist and an expert in third space endoscopy, including POEM (peroral endoscopic myotomy).

Mandar Vijay Doiphode is a leading gastro-intestinal endoscopist and general surgeon in Baner, Pune, and has an experience of 17 years in these fields. He completed his MBBS from Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College, Pune, in 1997, DNB - General Surgery from KEM Hospital, Pune, in 2001, and FMAS from AMASI India in 2008.

\n\n

Third Space Endoscopy (POEM) procedures were done on 07^th November 2024 in the Advanced Endoscopy Centre on the ground floor of the Hi-Tech Building of the Hospital of Dr DY Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune-411018. The procedures started at 9:30 AM and continued till 6:30 PM.

\n\n

Under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Puri & Dr. Mandar Vijay Doiphode, experts in this modality of Third Space Endoscopy (POEM), a total of three procedures were performed successfully. The 3 patients who underwent the POEM procedure were observed as inpatients for 3 days in the general wards for any post-procedure complications. As there were no complications and the recovery was uneventful, they were discharged with advice to follow up in the Med Gastro OPD.

The anesthesia support was provided by a team of faculty & residents from the Department of Anesthesiology consisting of Dr. Bhavini Bhushan Shah (Professor), Dr. Rahul Shabadi (Consultant Transplant Anesthesiology), and Dr. Smita Bhau Ubhe (Associate Professor). Vatsalaswamy, Director of Academics, & Dr. Benod Kumar K, Assistant Dean, visited the advanced endoscopy theatre and interacted with the visiting faculty and faculty of the department of medical gastroenterology and the anesthesiology working there and later felicitated the guest faculty in the traditional manner with DPU memento, DPU shawl, & saplings of indoor plants.
