Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology conducted an “Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics Courses” in collaboration with American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) on 26^thJuly 2024

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) is the national association of family doctors in USA. It is one of the largest national medical organizations, with 127,600 members nationally and internationally. It is also engaged in CME and skill-based training with a view to promoting and maintaining high standards among physicians who practice family medicine through accredited trainers nationally and internationally.

Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College (DYPMC) has entered in an agreement for collaborating with AAFP for conduction of short-term skill-based trainings for obstetric and emergency care.

Simulation and skill-based training in obstetrics and gynecology has improved knowledge acquisition. It has exposed students and residents to increased levels of inter professional communication confidence and care coordination, leading to an increase in team performance overall.

Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) workshop on 26 July 24 in our state of the art “Central Skill Lab”. There were 18 Participants who were trained for skills required in handling emergencies in Obstetrics like

Eclampsia Management
Shoulder Dystocia
Breech presentation
PPH Management
Maternal Trauma and Resuscitation.

There were 4 In-house Certified Instructors and one External Instructor for training candidates. Participants included Consultants, Residents, Interns and Nurses. Thus it actually involved different members of Maternity care team.

Till today we have trained 114 delegates in ALSO and BLSO workshops.

At the end of workshop Candidates were assessed at the skill stations by instructors.

Candidates were given ALSO Provider Certificates by the hands of Hon’ble Dean Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar Sir, Medical Superintendent Dr. H. H. Chavan Sir, Prof. & HOD Dr. Hemant Deshpande Sir.

Vote of Thanks was given by Dr Meenal Patvekar, Professor, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
