The Department of Microbiology successfully organized CMEon “Race to Resistance and,Xpert” on 18^thJune 2024 at 2pm onwards at MET Hall.

Dr. Shazia, Resident Department of Microbiology started the proceedings by welcoming Dean, Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar whose leadership has been instrumental in shaping our institute's commitment to tackling healthcare challenges like AMR. Dr. J. S. Bhawalkar then delivered the opening remarks.

AMR poses a grave threat to global health. The once-effective antibiotics we rely on to treat infections are losing their power, putting millions of lives at risk. This \"race against Resistance,\" as it's aptly called, demands immediate and coordinated action.

Later the Organising secretary Dr Shahzad Mirza emphasized on the fact that this CME program was designed to equip you, healthcare professionals, with the knowledge and strategies to combat AMR. Through today’s presentations, wedelved into the antimicrobial stewardship, explore the current state of the AMR threat and importance of rapid test. The presentations were followed by interactive panel discussion, allowing all to ask questions and exchange ideas.

The aim was “whether you are a seasoned physician, a budding resident, or a healthcare worker directly involved in patient care, your participation is crucial. Together, we can build a more informed and unified front against the growing challenge of AMR.

Al participants were encouraged to actively participate in the discussions and take full advantage of this learning opportunity. Together everyone pledged to let’s make significant strides in winning the race against antimicrobial resistance.

Thank you for the kind introduction. I am delighted to be here today to inaugurate this important CME program on antimicrobial resistance.

AMR is undoubtedly one of the most pressing issues facing global healthcare today. The potential consequences of widespread resistance to antibiotics are staggering. Simple infections could become life-threatening, and essential medical procedures like surgery could become far too risky.

Combating AMR requires a multi-pronged approach. We need to invest in research and development of new antibiotics, but we must also focus on ensuring the responsible use of existing ones. Healthcare professionals like yourselves play a critical role in implementing effective antimicrobial stewardship programs.

The initial presentation was made by Dr Shahzad Mirza on “Current Scenario of Resistance pattern in D Y Patil Hospital followed by a talk on “Global Burden of CPE`s and its impact and Therapeutic management of CRE`s in tertiary care hospital’ by Dr Swati Tripathi.

The was followed by Q and A sessions with our panellistsDr. Prashant Sakhavalakar, Dr. Asir Tamboli and Dr. Shahzad Mirza on strategies to combat MDR in GNB`s.

This CME program was a valuable initiative in equipping you with the knowledge and skills to be part of the solution. I encourage you to actively participate in the sessions and engage with the esteemed faculty.
