1.World Thyroid Month was successfully celebrated over entire month of May 2024 at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune by Department of Paediatrics in collaboration with Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics with lot of enthusiasm.

2.There has been increase in thyroid incidence overtime more so ever in congenital cases of hypothyroidism. The incidence of congenital hypothyroidism is 1/1000 in India. It is the most common preventable cause of mental retardation. Increasing Awareness can help in early detection and prevention of mental retardation.

3.The Department of Paediatrics along with Pediatric Endocrine Consultants Dr. Supriya Gupte and Dr. Sajili Mehta carried out various activities & awareness campaigns during the month of May 2024 on the occasion of World Thyroid Day (25th May). The details are enclosed below:

a)Awareness regarding thyroid disorders in children in Paediatric OPD via standees, posters, and talks.

b)Awareness amongst pregnant mothers visiting OBGY OPD for ANC regarding Newborn screening program for congenital hypothyroidism. (In collaboration with department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) Via- Standees, Handouts & talks.

c)Poster display and talks in PNC wards to mothers regarding universal newborn screening for Congenital Hypothyroidism.

d)Activities to sensitize mothers visiting the high-risk clinic regarding Thyroid disorders in children.

e)Educational talks of Interns, Postgraduate and faculty regarding Thyroid disorders.

f)The Program was well attended with active participation
